ROJALES, ALICANTE




Rojales

Rojales is a typical agricultural Spanish village with the River Segura running through the centre of town and traditional cave homes which display a picture of the history of the area.

The town actually covers quite a large area with many popular residential urbanisations surrounding the town centre. The residential area is very attractive with pretty gardens and swimming pools.

The region is located just inland from the
coastal area of Guardamar del Segura on the southern Costa Blanca.

Shopping & eating
In the centre of town there are a variety of shops including three good supermarkets, as well as many restaurants include tapas bars, cafes, and pubs including an English and Irish bar. There are also several banks.

Culture & Attractions
In the town centre there is a very pretty church, a local museum and a lovely village square where you can sit and watch the world go by.

The nearby cave houses are great places to explore with their local art displays and there is a house with millions of shells on the inside and outside; a lifetime’s labour of love by its owner.

Leisure
The river Segura runs through the centre of Rojales, it’s a lovely place to while away a few hours in the evening, where you can mingle with locals who enjoy ‘al frescito’ (sitting outside with friends) during the warm summer evenings.

Many excursions can also be made to most places of interest on the Costa Brava, as well as the many magnificent beaches of the area.

Market


Rojales comes alive on Thursday mornings when the weekly market takes place beside the river in the town centre. People come from near and far to buy fresh vegetables and browse the bargains.

Nightlife
There is a road of very lively discos in Rojales near the Los Palacios end. A regular local hangout where the locals let their hair down on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until the early hours

ALAHAURIN EL GRANDE, MALAGA




Alhaurín el Grande is a town located in the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain.

It covers an area of 73.1 km2 extending from the northern slope of the Sierra de Mijas and the plain of the Guadalhorce river, where alternate crops of citrus and other fruit trees orchards are found. The population reaches 23,675 inhabitants, according to 2010 data.

The origin of the name was given by the Arabs, who called it "Alhaurin", where the Catholic Monarchs added "el Grande" to distinguish it from the neighboring town of Alhaurín de la Torre after the conquest of both sites in 1485.

It is situated between the river Fahala and the stream of Blas González. The coast is close by and there is a network of roads to get there. There is a road to Málaga Airport and Torremolinos, which takes about 30 minutes by car. A new road was built in 2010 connecting the town with Fuengirola and the beach which is only 20 minutes drive. There is also another new road to Marbella, to the southwest with Mijas just along a winding road round the mountain. From Alhaurín there is a view over the "Hoya de Málaga", Málaga's vale, full of lemon trees and other fruit trees.

Villafranco del Guadalhorce is a village within Alhaurín el Grande's municipal term. It was founded by colonist families in the 1950s[1] and subsidized by the Instituto Nacional de Colonización of the Spanish government.

CANCELADA, ESTEPONA




Cancelada is
a few minutes drive away from the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda mountain range and twenty kilometres from the town of Estepona. An ancient farming community, once famous for sugar cane, today Cancelada is a refreshingly unspoilt area with an appeal all of its own. PUERTO DE LA DUQUESA, MALAGA





Puerto de la Duquesa is one of the Costa del Sol's best marinas. Although within easy reach of the airports of Malaga (60 minutes) and Gibraltar (45 minutes), La Duquesa seems like a thousand miles away from the throng of the holiday resorts.

La Duquesa enjoys an advantageous location to the west of Marbella ­ sometimes called "the Other Costa del Sol". The essence in this distinction is that the area retains a vast amount of unspoiled natural scenery and authentic local character - while sharing the fantastic climate and all the excellent services and infrastructure of the rest of the Costa del Sol. This is primarily due to a limited and well-managed development. The result: an ideal balance of relaxed living with easy access to every imaginable amenity. In other words, quality of life.

The beautiful port of La Duquesa offers full Marina services for boating enthusiasts as well as a myriad of attractions for those with no aspirations to take to the water. For those that a do, a number of companies offer Jet Boat, Wake Board, Boat trips and Scuba Diving. The attractive promenades surrounding the port offer a variety of restaurants, intimate bars and cafes in which to while away the days.

CAFE AND BARS

On the east side (Muelle de Levante) a number of cafe bars face the Marina due to the afternoon sun make a very pleasand place to have a snack or a drink and watch the world go by. H2O and Dolphin Bar are such bars along with La Marine on the corner.

In the main complex are a number of bars, many foreign run as the names suggest. Bar La Fuente, CJ-s family bar, Leisure Lounge, Jolly Saylor, Ryders, Cork Tree, Kinsale, Deja Vu, Hemmingways, Penguin.

RESTAURANTS

The vast choice of eating options include French, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai and, of course, Spanish with its fresh, local fish. Many of the the bars and restaurants mentioned open late in the summer months. Later music bars include Rojo47 and Bojangles disco.  
TOURIST MARKET

In the summer weekend evenings the port hosts a unique Crafts Market, popular with the local residents as well as visitors.

GOLF

BEACHES

Both sides of Duquesa Marina are expansive beaches. Playa de las Gaviotas and Playa del Castillo to the west with Chiringuito Las Gaviotas open in the summer. On playa Sabillias to the east is beach bar Cubanga which is open all year. More>

PARKING

There is generally ample parking in one of the three open free car parks or in the street at the back of the shops. In the summer underground parking in the Mykonos building will be worth the 2 euro investment.

TOURIST OFFICE

Manilva Town hall operate a tourist office (Tel: +34 952 89 74 34) at the entrance to the port open all year Mon to Fri 08.30 to 20.00 and Sat 08.30 to 14.00). The marina is run by a company called Marinas del Meditarraneo and the port office is inn the Torre de Control at the end of the west pier (Muelle de Poniente). This is where the recycling depo is located. The offer a wifi fi service for a fee a well as many of the bars. Bycicles are available for hire.

EXCURSIONS

A short walk to the west of Puerto de la Duquesa is the litlle fishing hamlet of Castillo de la Duquesa from which marina gets its name.The castle built in 1767 can be visited and is often used for local exhibitions. Nearby are largely unexcavated roman ruins.  In the hamlet are a number of bars and retaurants.

A short walk to the east is the fishing village of Sabinillas. A seafront promenade makes a pleaseant walk.

Rising virtually from the beaches, in the mountains the famed white villages of Manilva, Casares, and Gaucin are all withing an hours drive.
Cosmopolitan life can be found only twenty minutes away in the "jet-set" city of Marbella with its shopping experiences ranging from the El Corte Inglés and to the sprawling La Cañada centre to the infinite variety of small shops and boutiques lining the cobble-stoned streets of Old Marbella.

GETTING THERE

Duquesa is about one and a quarter hours drive from Málaga Airport on the A7coast road, 45 minutes from Gibraltar airport.and one and half hours from Jerez Airport. Leave the A7 coast road at km 142 for Duquesa

CASARES,MALAGA



Casares is a picture postcard village with a population of just three thousand and the view from the approach is definitely worth a photo.

To say that Casares is beautiful is an understatement. Most of the white villages are beautiful but there is something very special about the sight of Casares that causes the visitor to park the car and simply stare or take a photo. There are the sugar cubes again, piled precariously high and just nudging the battlements of an Arab castle. It is hard to believe that this enchanting, typical village is only nine miles from the hustle and bustle of the coast and somehow succeeded in avoiding the coach tour circuit.
