MARBELLA - SAN PEDRO BEACHSIDE DISTRICTS
On the beach side of the A-7 (was N-340) coast road, underpass and Boulevard there are several districts of San Pedro.
Guadalmina Baja
Guadalmina Baja is the beach-side part of the development that is divided by the A-7 (old N-340) coastal highway. The two parts, Guadalmina Baja and Guadalmina Alta are joined by a tunnel and are collectively known as Guadalmina.
El Ingenio
El Ingenio is one of the original villages of San Pedro farm estate. It now benefits from being located just to the beach side of the new Boulevard, as well as being conveniently opposite La Colonia shopping centre.
Linda Vista
Linda Vista is an established ubanización constructed in the 1970s between El Ingenio district and the seafront. It consists of individual villa plots. To the east is Nueva Alcantara district.
Nueva Alcantara
Nueva Alcantara ia a large expansive district is located to the south of the boulevard running all the way down to the seafront promenade.
The district was developed in the mid-nineties by the Nueva Alcantara group using a distinctive sail and sea logo, and the infrastructure constructed. Happily the first to be carried out was the long straight sea front tiled promenade to support the San Pedro beach.
Las Petunias
Las Petunias is west of Nueva Alcantara is the older established district of Las Petunias. Its principal road running down to the seafront is Avenida Las Petunias. The district is residential with the only commercial area in the block next to the main road. It is a mix of villas and townhouses.
Cortijo Blanco
Cortijo Blanco is one of the original historic districts of Marbella. The Hotel Cortijo Blanco was opened on 26 March 1961 by Miguel Garcia Rico, a doctor from Seville. Construction had begun in 1959, in what is now Calle Antonio Mingote, and by 1963, 60 chalets were also complete.

LOS MONTEROS
Los Monteros is a beachside and mountainside neighborhood occupying a vast area of developments about 15 minutes driving west from the centre of Marbella west of the Rio Real.
The famous Spanish banker, Ignacio Coca, in the name of the Los Monteros Group constructed the Los Monteros Hotel in 1962, Rio Real Golf course in 1965, and the medical spa Hotel Incosol (currently closed), in 1973. In the 1970 the beachside estate comprising of villa plots was constructed as La Reserva de los Monteros urbanizacion. Since then a number of other estates and complexes have been constructed at Los Monteros including Urb. Bahia Real, Urb. LA Brisas, Golf Rio Real Village.
One of the most prestigious hotels on the cost - Los Monteros Marbella Hotel and Spa ( 5* GL) is located conveniently near the urbanization entrance and within is the renowned Los Flamingos restaurant. The hotel also runs the ‘La Cabana' beach club a short walk (or golf buggy ride) down through the leafy urbanizacion at the sea front.
The beach is also called Playa los Monteros and there are a number of beach bars and restaurants. ,
The neighbourhood has added cache thanks to Malaga born actor Antonio Banderas having a seafront residence here as well as Sir John Hall (ex Newcastle United Chairman).

NUEVA ANDALUCIA,MARBELLA
Nueva Andalucía is the largest neighbourhood in Marbella, extending over several square kilometres. It has an official census population of about 15,000 but considerably more residents in the summer. It was created by Madrid developer José Banús Mas, who came to Marbella in 1962 and acquired the land. Construction of Puerto Banús began in 1965, it was inaugurated in 1968, and the main infrastructure of Nueva Andalucía was installed shortly afterward. The area continued to grow until 1989 - and again in the 2000s.
The key attractions today are the large residential estate, reasonable access to the highway and Marbella and, for many, a short taxi ride home from the Puerto Banús nightlife. Being a large residential area it has plenty of small commercial centres and restaurants for those who don't want to venture out on a rainy or sunny day. Others find it too large and soulless; visitors can become frustrated or lost in the maze of tree-lined residential avenues which are confusingly either code-numbered (e.g. Calle 19B) or named in the normal way. This is not to mention the overlay of "supermanzana" urban layouts. It is, however, reputed that some residents appreciate the anonymity of the place.

EASTER IN MALAGA
From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, the confraternities of Malaga carry their floats in processions representing the Passion of Christ from His entry into Jerusalem to His Resurrection.
The official route is varied, serious, and respectful, making the sight of each and every one of the confraternities the centre of admiration.
Another feature is the general cheering and enthusiastic applause of the locals in the streets of Malaga, who show a particular devotion to their Christs and Virgins when each procession leaves the church and then when it returns.
Most of the confraternities and brotherhoods of the Passion of Christ have their own centre called a Casa-Hermanad which is like a museum and can be visited. Inside you can get a close-up view of the luxurious beauty of the thrones, the Virgins shawls, and all the equipment and trappings of the liturgy and proces.
Even before dawn begins to break on Easter Monday, thousands of locals congregate inside and around the church of San Pablo in Malaga to witness how the figures of Jesús Cautivo and María Santísima de la Trinidad are carried from their chapel to the processional thrones kept in the nearby centre belonging to the confraternity. This is not simply a movement of figures. It is “the carriage” par excellence. It is spectacular to see the number of public penitents accompanying Jesús Cautivo in the Easter Monday procession, a demonstration of the faith of those living in the neighbourhood of La Trinidad. At times, there have been as many as 30,000 people.
On the night of Easter Monday, another figure of Christ draws behind him, not the deep roots of a humble neighbourhood, but the spirit of a whole race. La Hermandad de Jesús de la Columna y María Santísima de la O, the brotherhood of “the Gypsies”, starts its joyful and somewhat unusual cortege from Frailes street.
The tradition of Nuestro Padre Jesús el Rico granting freedom to a prisoner not convicted of violent crime goes back to a privilege granted by Charles III at a time when there was a cholera outbreak. The prisoners escaped from jail and after carrying the figure of Christ through the streets, they returned, without taking the opportunity of escaping.
One of the curiosities is that some of processions are accompanied by military bands, which have links to a number of the brotherhoods: this include the Regulars with El Cautivo, the Legion with Cristo de la Buena Muerte, the Paratroopers with Ánimas de Ciegos, the Marines with La Soledad and the Cavalry with La Zamarrilla.
And of course, the sober Cofradía de la Expiración is aptly accompanied by the Civil Guard. Finally, the Virgen de la Esperanza is notable for the accompaniment of enthusiastic crowds of Malaga residents, while the Santo Sepulcro in contrast offers a serious and exemplary procession.

CONIL DE LA FRONTERA, CADIZ
Conil de la Frontera is a town on the Atlantic coast in the southern part of Spain, with around 22,000 inhabitants.
It has six beaches: Playa La Fontanilla, Playa El Roqueo (with a 1936 Civil War bunker), Playa Fuente del Gallo, Playa Punta Lejos, Playa Cala del Aceite and Playa los Bateles. Playa los Bateles is the longest and the most popular in the summer. Conil de la Frontera is primarily a vacation town and the most of the tourists are Spanish although you often also hear German as well in town.
Every Friday you can visit the market on Avda. de la Música, which includes culture and history. The market includes lots of little trinkets and handmade clothes. The beach has volleyball nets and lots and lots of sand. The Beach is a nice place to go if you're wanting a vacation getaway.

PUNTA PALOMA BEACH
Punta Paloma beach in Tarifa is best known for its beautiful golden sand dunes which can't be missed during an excursion to Tarifa. Visit Punta Paloma beach during a day excursion to Tarifa which takes approximately 1 hr 15 minutes from Marbella.
This beach is spectacular for its views from the top of the sand dunes. If there is only one beach to visit in Tarifa, this is the one see. This beach is truly unspoiled and does not offer typical Marbella services such as showers, toilets and lounge chair rentals. Only requirement is your towel, picnic and sunscreen. GIBRALTAR AIRPORT
Gibraltar International Airport or North Front Airport (IATA: GIB, ICAO: LXGB) is the civilian airport that serves the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The runway is owned by the Ministry of Defence for use by the Royal Air Force as RAF Gibraltar. Civilian operators use the civilian-operated terminal. National Air Traffic Services hold the contract for provision of air navigation services at the airport.
In 2015, the airport handled 444,336 passengers and 408,757 kg of cargo on 4,100 total flights.[1] Winston Churchill Avenue (the main road heading towards the land border with Spain) intersects the airport runway, and consequently has to be closed every time a plane lands or departs. The History Channel programme Most Extreme Airports ranked the airport the fifth most extreme airport in the world.[2] It is exposed to strong cross winds around the rock and across the Bay of Algeciras, making landings in winter particularly uncomfortable.
Monarch Airlines is the largest operator at Gibraltar International, operating flights to Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester Airport.[3] Both routes are operated by an Airbus A320-200. easyJet operates seven weekly flights to London Gatwick operated by Airbus A320 family aircraft, as well as 3 flights per week to Bristol Airport and 2 flights a week to Manchester Airport. British Airways also operates nine weekly flights to London Heathrow being operated by an Airbus A320-200. Royal Air Maroc Express also operate twice weekly flights to Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, which continue onto Casablanca Airport.
Although located in Gibraltar, the airport is also used by people travelling to or from neighbouring parts of southern Spain such as the Costa del Sol or the Campo de Gibraltar.

This year, Semana Santa is celebrated 20-27 March 2016.
Marbella Easter Parades are held all throughout the week and consist of "tronos" (thrones that are as big as floats) which can weigh more than 5,000 kilos. The ornately carved thrones are hundreds of years old (some dating to the 17th century) and are carried by members of the local brotherhood, which is witnessed by thousands of people who come to see and applaud their favorite thrones.

CAÑOS DE MECA, CADIZ
Caños de Meca is a small, unspoiled community on the windswept but stunning Costa de la Luz. Deep in the Parque Natural del Acantilado, Caños de Meca has beautiful beaches, backed by cliffs and pine trees. Perched on the cliff-tops straddling the coast road, this sleepy little village is fast waking up to a reputation as a trendy place for beatnik travellers and wave-jumpers to spend the summer.
The singer and actress Lola Flores was originally from this area, and much to the pride of the locals, often spent her holidays in here.
Caños de Meca is well off the beaten track and has to be reached by taking one of the small side roads A-2230 off the N-340 coast road just north of Vejer de la Frontera or by taking the minor coast A-2233 road through the pine forest north from Barbate.
Its almost impossible to escape from the occasional block of flats, but thankfully, there's little modern development. There are campsites in the area featuring chalet-style bungalows ideal for families.
THINGS TO SEE
The 'El Pirata' restaurant overlooks the beach and offers excellent seafood dishes especially at lunch time. Opposite La Cabana specializes in Moroccan fare, well worth a visit. After the evening meal many visitors descend to the cliff steps to the beach bars (El Pirata recommended) which become discos on hot summer nights. The music stops when the last person leaves or just falls asleep on the beach.
To the north west of the town, is the famous Cape Trafalgar, which protects the town's beaches. The lighthouse protects shipping. This is probably one of the worlds most famous yet unknown places because it was off this point that The Battle of Trafalgar was fought in 1805. when Admiral Nelson, although greatly outnumbered, attacked and destroyed the combined Frenach and Spanish fleet.
The Natural Park protects the 100m high cliffs and pine forests immediately to the south east. Guy Hunter Watts recommends his La Breña walk here.

CABO PINO, MARBELLA, MALAGA
Cabopino is a quiet Marina situated between Marbella and Benalmadena. This is a much smaller port than Benalmadena with its own truly Mediterranean style. It is often overlooked by the tourists mainly because it is not visible from the road, but like all the costal Marinas it has some very good restaurants and bars, as well as a lovely beach and golf courses.
Albert's on the Port is the best known restaurant, especially for its steaks. Harbour Lights is a friendly family restaurant also worth visiting.
