LA VALL DE POP
La Vall de Pop is a group of towns forming a united district within the Marina Alta: Alcalali, Benigembla, Parcent, Xalo/Jalon, Castell de Castells, Lliber, Senija and Murla. PARCENT A QUIET AND RELAXED VILLAGE IN THE PROVINCE OF ALICANTE
Villages Alicante province; General Parcent is a charming village with narrow streets which is located in the Vall de Pop and is reached after a 40-minute drive from Refugio Marnes. From the village, which lies in a valley but is built on a hill, there are lovely views of the surroundings. Villages alicante province; Parcent was conquered by Jaume 1 in 1256 from the Moors but snce this time there have been several Moorish uprisings. The last one took place in the Valle de Pop and the Valle de Laguar in the early 17th century in which the royal troops made 19,000 Moors seek refuge in the castle Pop. In November 1609, after a battle that lasted two months when approximately 4,000 people had already been killed , the Moors capitulated . Villages alicante province; Among others, the following festivals are celebrated in Parcent. Carnival – Parcent has a long tradition of celebrating carnival. Even in the years of the Spanish Civil War, when the celebration was forbidden, it was continued secretly. On three evenings during the carnival people dress up and dance. San Lorenzo – In this festival week in August, in honour of the patron saint of the village, San Lorenzo, the population of Parcent expands with visitors and people returning to where they grew up. This week offers a variety of activities in the town (church masses, processions, dancing, fireworks, sports events, parades and children’s games among others). The old part of this town is called the Arsenal and is situated on the shore. It is well wroth taking a stroll around the narrow streets with lively colored houses built on the flank or side of the river bank. Although many may think this to be dangerous, the reason behind this was so that the fishermen could see the sea from their homes. And for those who wish to try luck and have not had the opportunity to bet and gamble at a real casino, visit the Royal Palm Casino there.
The festivities called ‘Moors and Christians’ is lived to the maxi there. Usually at last week of July, there are parades with impressive costumes and accompanying music. There is also a real live re-enactment of the landing of the Moorish Army on the beaches at dawn with rustic weapons being used until, when the night falls, and the Arab leader and his army are thrown into the sea, being defeated. The whole coastline is limestone, where over the years, the sea has carved out caves and formations, along the beach you find the Cova del Arcs (Cave of Arches), the start of the Moraig Underwater Route.
De los Tiestos Cove is a small cove; hidden away and accessed via a small footpath, here you find beautiful calm seas and a relaxing hideaway.
Places to visit
Places to visit include the picturesque town of Denia, the beachside towns of Javea, Moraira and Calpe.
Terra Mitica is less than 30 minutes away, and is a fantastic day out for all the family. Also in visiting distance are Aqualandia, Terra Natura, Aqua Natura and Mundomar.
There are also horse riding at the local stables, go karting facilities and tennis courts close by.
You can head to Benidorm for a show and loads of fun and ambience. For the more independently minded there are many miles of country roads to explore inland, dotted with little villages and historic towns.
Golf
There are many fine challenging golf courses in the area. Try the Seve Ballesteros designed championship course at Oliva or sample the delights of the course in Javea. In fact there is a great choice of courses within one hours drive of Benitachell.

LA BARROSA, CHICLANA DE LA FRONTERA
La Barrosa
La Barrosa is a superb, laid-back beach resort located close to the town of Chiclana de la Frontera on the Costa de la Luz in the province of Cadiz, Andalusia.
La Barrosa has been a popular destination for Spanish holidaymakers for many years who come to enjoy the eight kilometres of virgin white sands, clear blue waters and the water sports facilities, which are renowned in this area.
La Barrosa is situated close to Jerez Airport, with flights on Ryan Air. Gibraltar is also an option, but beware if you are hiring a car, it can often take a while to get over the border into Spain.
Town Life
La Barrosa isn’t so much a town or village, it’s more a beach with ambience. There are a selection of chilled out bars and restaurants dotted along the seafront promenade, which runs all the way to Novo Sancti Petro. Low rise apartments and villas can be found in the surrounding countryside. It’s a protected area, for the native Umbrella Pine, which eliminates the option for high-rise construction in the local region.
Most of the bars and restaurants stay open during the evening, there are even a couple of music bars, where you can dance the night away.
Chiclana de la Frontera is just six kilometres away and offers a wide selection of amenities and facilities. There is also plenty of cultural attractions, a market and a sherry bodega.
The beach
La Barrosa Beach was merited as one of Spain’s Best Beaches by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine. No small feat! Awarded with a Blue Flag for cleanliness, this eight kilometre beach is split between a busy, family area, a strip of virgin sand, where you can take your book and enjoy peace and tranquillity with few people around you and sand dunes.
The area is renowned for its water sports fraternity. The Atlantic Ocean and the Levante winds that blow in, make conditions fabulous for kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, etc.
Places to visit
La Barrosa is an excellent destination to chill out on the beach for the duration of your holiday, or explore the local region, which has heaps on offer.
As it is fairly centrally located it’s an excellent base to visit the bohemian town of Tarifa, the capital of the province, Cadiz City and Jerez, the home of Sherry.
This region is famous for its ‘pueblos blancos’ (whitewashed villages); traditional villages, with Moorish and Medieval routes and architecture, where you can taste a bit of real Spain. The villages of Vejer, Arcos de la Frontera, Medina Sidonia are close by and recommended to visit.
Cuisine
The whole of the Cadiz region is acclaimed for its seafood and shellfish cuisine. You can eat excellent seafood on most menus in La Barrosa and Chiclana.
For a real treat, head to Cadiz for a day trip and thentake the ferry over to Puerto de Santa Maria, where there is a superb restaurant called Romerijo. Here you can buy your own seafood from their pescadería (fish stall) and they will then cook it for you.
Climate
La Barrosa enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, with little rain and more than 3,000 hours of sun a year. The strong Levante and Poniente winds mean that it can sometimes feel cooler than it really is.
