AQUA MIJAS




One of our favourite local attractions, Mijas Water Park (Parque Acuático Mijas) opens today for the new season.

Knowing that many of our guests are regular visitors to this popular water park, we thought we’d give you a few tips on how you can save a few Euros next time you and the family decide to spend the day shooting down water slides!

Although great fun, water parks such as the one in Mijas can prove to be a seriously- expensive day out, especially if you have a big family! The normal prices for a day at ‘Parque Acuático Mijas’ are as follows:

Adults – 23€
Junior (8 to 12 years) – 17€
Children (3 to 7 years) – 12€
Seniors – 15€
You don’t have to be a genius to realise that, if you are a family of four, a day on the water slides is going to set you back at least 70€ – ouch!

But fear not, here are a few tips to save, at least a few euros, on your next visit to Mijas Water Park:

1)      Buy your tickets online: If you go to the official website and buy your tickets beforehand, you’ll get a 10% discount. Whilst not an amazing discount it’ll pay for the icecreams 🙂 Go HERE to get your discount.

2)      Purchase a Family Ticket: For 58€, a family of four (2 adults and 2 children aged 3 to 7) can enjoy a full day at the MijasWaterPark. This is a saving of 12€ on the normal price. Don’t forger, if you buy this ticket online, you’ll get an extra 10% discount, effectively paying just 52.20€ for the family ticket.

3)      Go in the afternoon: If you go after 2:30pm (3:30pm in July & August) you get a 30% discount on the entrance ticket. The park is open until 7:00pm in July and August so you get to spend three and a half hours in the park, still plenty of time to try all of the great rides 🙂

4)      Make use of discount coupons & offers: If you visit this page of the Mijas Water Park Website, you can print out some great coupons and offers to use whilst in the park. Here’s a few examples of the coupons you can download and print off:

MIJAS GOLF

MANILVA, MALAGA







Manilva is a municipality which lies on the coast at the southwesternmost edge of the province of Málaga on its border with the province of Cádiz in the autonomous community of Andalusia in Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Costa del Sol Occidental.

Manilva’s strategic position, close to the entrance to the Mediterranean, has resulted in a long history of settlement in the area going back to the Stone Age. In recent years traces of these early settlers has been found in caves in the Sierra Utrera, a ridge of limestone which runs behind the town. There is also a historically important Bronze Age hill fort which is currently the subject of a programme of excavations by experts from across Europe.

It is during the Roman period, though that the area first enjoyed prominence, as it was the site of a thriving fish processing industry, which exported products, including the highly prized garum paste (a kind of “Gentleman’s Relish”) which was in much demand back in Rome. Remains of the factory, a villa and bathhouse can be found today in Castillo de la Duquesa, one of Manilva’s coastal villages.

It was in the 16th century that the town of Manilva itself was founded, although a part of the neighbouring municipality of Casares, it gained its independence in 1795 and has grown ever since. For many years the chief industries were fishing, agriculture and viticulture. Manilva’s vineyards are famous for their moscatel grapes, used for the production of raisins and fine wines.

Since the 1970s, when the Marina and golf course were built, tourism has been added to this list, and in recent years Manilva has enjoyed the status of one of the Costa del Sol’s fastest developing municipalities, with almost a trebling of the resident population in the last 10 years.

Another area of development has been the business sector, with the establishment of an industrial estate just a few hundred metres from the Manilva exit to the A7 motorway, there are also literally hundreds of shops and office units available thanks to the construction boom of recent years.

Like all Spanish towns and cities, Manilva has an annual feria or fair, which in Manilva’s case is held in the second week of August, to coincide with Spain’s national holiday, Ascension Day on 15 August.

Ferias and Fiestas

In fact Manilva has a very busy calendar of ferias and fiestas either religious, traditional or modern. Starting off with the Three Kings cavalcade on 5 January, then the raucous fun of Carnaval around the beginning of Lent; the solemn devotion of the Semana Santa processions during Easter; the Manilva International Festival, around the end of May, during which the municipality’s international community takes the opportunity to show off its varying culture, cuisine and traditions; the Eve of San Juan during the summer solstice with its pagan tradition of bonfires, fireworks and partying till dawn; the fishermen’s celebration of their patron, the Virgen del Carmen in mid-July, and then rounding off the summer with the Vendimia, in the first weekend of September, a festival celebrating Manilva’s grape harvest. Throw into that a good smattering of Saints’ days and pilgrimages and you’ve got a busy schedule of partying and celebrations.

ULTIMATE PARTY GUIDE: Puerto Banus, Marbella






When people talk about going to Marbs, what they really mean is that they're off to party in Puerto Banus. The Spanish equivalent to St Tropez, it's known as one of the most luxurious resort towns in the world and boasts an endless supply of restaurants, bars, clubs and shops to keep you entertained throughout your stay.

Marbella's hotspot, Puerto Banus, can be found in a marina located on the southwest coast of Marbella on the Costa Del Sol, Spain. In recent years, Puerto Banus has earned itself a reputation as being a playground of the rich and famous and celebs and royalty alike have all been papped here enjoying the sun.

The closest airport is Malaga, and the journey should cost around 70 to 80 Euros in a taxi. Alternatively, if you want to save your money you do have the option of a public bus, which you can find situated outside T3 arrivals. Either way, if you're off to Marbella this year, one thing's for certain – you're definitely in for a good time.

Where to eat:

Catering for the world's rich and famous means Marbella has some fantastic eateries that not only offer an extensive selection of cuisine, but also offer a brilliant night out.

Nikki Beach is just a €30 taxi journey from Puerto Banus and represents everything cool and glamourous about beachside chilling. This is where Marbella's exclusive crowd can be found and is universally known for their fun vibes and good food (and we're really excited to hear they'll be opening in Ibiza this summer, too).

La Sala promises the ultimate social and dining experience day and night, and they don't disappoint with an extensive menu and a lively crowd. Soak up the atmosphere on their decked terrace, opt for private dining, or sit right in the middle of it all with one of their bar-side tables – it's up to you.

If you're into your Japanese food, Namazake is set within the Marbella Club and has a reputation for being one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. It's also right next door to Suite nightclub, so it's the perfect starting point for a night of debauchery.

Alternatively, Infuschia restaurant is just on the side of popular night spot Tibu, and offer a variety of great dining deals, especially good if you're in a big group, and perfect if you want to pop next door for a spot of partying afterwards.

However if you're looking for somewhere affordable, central, easy and fun, you can't go wrong with a trip to Pizzeria Picasso on the Marina side, and you'll find plenty more independent and authentic eateries if you take the time to explore the area.

Where to shop:


The shopping in Puerto Banus is second to none and you can expect to find endless rows of boutiques and high-end designers, including Dior, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Bvlguri. But whilst the shopping scene here is all about designer labels, you also have the largest El Corte Ingles department store in Spain right on your doorstep, as well as the Cristamar and the Marina Banus shopping centres. Just be sure to make sure you go with space in your suitcase!

Where to sightsee:


We'd probably be kidding ourselves if we said we went to Puerto Banus to sightsee, although of course the surrounding area is beautiful and that option is there should you want it. Marbella is the place to see and BE seen, and if you're looking for something to titillate the senses, your best bet would be to head down to the port when the marina is teaming with millionaires yachts and sleek super-cars. Of course, there are still some traces of authentic Spain all around you, with tapas bars and pavement cafes in abundance, but if you're looking for something eye-popping then the Puerto Banus marina will certainly do the job.


Where's the party?

In the summer months you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to places to party, and if you're looking for a good few days of luxurious, hedonistic fun then you've definitely come to the right place.

As with any trip, it can sometimes feel a little daunting having to organise where to go, but luckily Sintillate Marbella has been around for years and have earned themselves a stellar reputation for being Marbella's best-known party organisers, with nights at some of Puerto Banus's most sought after hotspots.

Pangea is one of the most popular pre-club destinations, with a large, open-air terrace and plenty of space to mingle. It's also handily positioned on the marina front, and attracts many a yacht owner looking for the party. Newscafe is also a popular place to start out for drinks, and 2013 sees them open their brand new and exclusive members terrace.
